Construction crews are putting the finishing touches on a STEM classroom and lab building at Brentwood High School (above), harsh weather is dogging construction crews working on a Grassland Middle School auditorium, Franklin High is making progress reclaiming the one-time home of Columbia State Community College that initially was part of FHS, and additions are coming along at Page High School and at Scales Elementary School.

WCS InFocus this week presented an update on the construction projects now in progress in the district.

Brentwood High STEM Building

Construction of the Brentwood High School Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) Building (shown above) is almost finished.

Contractors are putting the final touches inside and outside of the building. The building itself is 60,000 square feet and houses 33 classrooms and laboratories. The building also houses a large athletic team and multipurpose room.

The building’s anticipated completion time is Mid-March.

The second phase of construction is well under way.

Phase Two includes two general education classrooms, a design laboratory, a dance studio and a large multipurpose room.

In addition, the Entrepreneurial and Innovation Center, EIC, will be housed there. It will include a lecture space, work stations and collaboration offices.

The second floor of the center will have a “maker” space and a fabrication lab.

The building pad is complete, and foundations are in most of the building. Rain and cold have delayed progress, but the contractor is committed to making up lost time. The CMU foundation block and under-slab utility lines have been set. The building’s completion is scheduled for February 2020.

Page Middle Addition

The project is continuing despite inclement weather. The contractor is working longer hours and weekends to make up lost time. Electrical, plumbing and HVAC duct installations are progressing, as well as masonry on the third floor.

Phase Two of the project is under design and includes another new structure across the front of the building. This will connect to the 3-story structure when completed.

Scales Elementary Classroom and Administration Additions

Contractors are in the process of building the classroom addition interiors. Because of recent inclement weather, construction has been delayed. Contractors are working additional hours to make up time.

The completion date is now set for June 3.

Media Center renovations will begin following the end of the 2018-19 school year.
