Alyssa Coats, daughter of Beka and Hut Coats, is a junior at Nolensville High School and a member of the varsity volleyball team.
She plays the positions of outside hitter and defensive specialist for the team.
Coats said one of her biggest highlights while playing for NHS was winning Districts.
She got her start in volleyball almost by accident.
“I didn’t make the cheer team in sixth grade and I needed to play another sport,” she said.
Luckily, volleyball was something she was able to succeed in and found a passion for the game.
When asked what inspires her to train and compete she said it all has to do with wanting to get better. Her internal drive pushes her forward.
NHS volleyball coach said of Coats, “Alyssa is a great 6 rotation player and leads by example. She gives 100% each day on the court. She has a strong swing and makes smart shots on both outside pins.”
One of her biggest mentors and role models is her youth minister, Jeremy. She said she really admires him because he helps her through everything.
After graduating from NHS next year, she hopes to attend The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga and possibly pursue a career in pharmaceuticals.
