Mike McWilliams, son of Maureen and Scott McWilliams, is a freshman at Nolensville High School and a member of the Wrestling Team.
He competes in the 170-pound weight class. This season, he came in 2nd place in the Regional individuals. He has a current record of 28-4.
He said his father’s influence and past career in wrestling led him to start the sport. Along with wrestling, McWilliams also plays football and said wrestling training has helped him improve his football skills.
When asked what inspires him to continue training and competing he said, “I want to be the best. I want to be known as the best and nothing else.”
One of his biggest role models is Jordan Burroughs, a world-level freestyle wrestler. “He is one of the greatest wrestlers ever,” McWilliams said. He also listed Anthony Robles, an NCAA wrestling champion with only one leg, as an inspiration.
Although he is only a freshman, McWilliams has a very intentional plan for his future. His goal is to receive a full scholarship for either wrestling, football or rugby. Aside from athletics, he hopes to pursue a career in Engineering.
