Hailey Kim, daughter of Joo and Yong Kim, is a sophomore at Nolensville High School and a member of the girls cross country team.
She holds rank as the number one girl on the varsity girls cross country team. Her personal best is 21:36 in 5k.
She got her start running after following in her father’s footsteps. She said that he is also a runner and when she was in sixth grade, he suggested that she try it out. Since then, she said, she has done it every year.
When asked what inspires her to train and compete she said, “I always set a goal for myself and the relief and satisfaction I feel when I reach that goal is something I strive for every time. Being able to tell myself that I’m getting better and that I’m doing good is what keeps me going when I’m not at my best.”
One of her biggest inspirations and role models is her father. She looks up to him for his ability to balance running along with all of his other responsibilities and said he is always able to “accomplish great achievements.” She also said she admires how he helps others with their running and hopes she can do the same some day.
One of Kim’s coaches said of her, “She has consistently been our top finisher on the girls side in each meet of the season so far. She ran a personal record of 21:36 last weekend at the McCallie Invite, improving upon her previous time by almost a minute!”
After finishing high school, Kim plans to go to college, although she is still undecided as to where. She said she is considering a career in the medical field or government and international affairs.
