Nolan McGinnity, son of Nancy and Jim McGinnity, is a senior at Ravenwood High School and a member of the Varsity Boys Cross Country Team.
This season, McGinnity said his biggest highlight was running a 5k in 18:00 at the state meet.
He started running cross country in sixth grade after encouragement from a friend and has been at it ever since.
When asked what inspires him to train and compete he said jokingly, “My desire to be better than my past self if I ever need to go back in time to defeat him.”
Two of his biggest role models are fellow RHS runners Kevin Frost and Sam Dahms.
“They can grow beards really well and I think it makes them run faster,” he said.
Apart from running, he enjoys playing basketball, Legos and doing cartwheels.
Head Varsity Cross Country Coach Peter Mueller said of McGinnity:
In his final cross country race for Ravenwood, Nolan turned in his best race of the season to finish sixth for the Raptors. He was the only Ravenwood runner to clock a season best at State, as he navigated the treacherous hills with aplomb, passing runners left and right over the last half of the race. In addition to being one of the best strategic runners on the team, Nolan is also known for his keen intelligence, fresh beats, colorful socks, subtle humor and t-shirt design skills.
After graduating from RHS this year, he is planning to pursue a degree in Engineering at Vanderbilt University.
