ATHLETE OF THE WEEK: Ravenwood High School

Bryan Rice

Bryan Rice, son of Bridgette Rice, is a junior at Ravenwood High School and a member of the Varsity Football Team.

He plays the position of defensive end for the team. In the second round of the playoffs in a game against BHS, Rice had eight tackles, two sacks and two tackles for a loss.

Rice said he’s been playing football since he was only five years old.

“My brother and mother always pushed me to improve and put all my effort in to everything to do with football,” he said.

When asked what inspires him to train and compete he said, “One thing that motivates me is my mother because she does so much for me and motivates me on and off the field and during workouts to do that one extra set, run one more mile, and be the best I can be.”

His biggest role model is Ray Lewis, a former professional football player. “He gives nonstop effort and [is] willing to work as hard as possible to achieve his goal,” he said.

Rice’s coach said of him, “Bryan Rice, who was just named the region 6-6A Defensive Player of the Year as a junior, continued his season-long trend of constantly disrupting the opponents offensive backfield against Whitehaven in the State Semifinals. He finished the game with six tackles, three tackles for loss and one sack.

Outside of football, he enjoys spending time with friends and family and being outdoors.

After graduating from RHS, he plans to go to a Division I college to play football. One day, he hopes to join the NFL.
