Jaz Harmon, daughter of Katy and Damien Harmon, is a junior at Ravenwood High School and a member of the girls Varsity Basketball Team.
She plays the position of guard for the team. This season, she scored 20 points, had 7 steals, five rebounds, and three assists against MLK.
Harmon’s mother, Katy, played basketball in college. Her passion for the sport was one of the driving forces behind Harmon joining a team. She said that she remembers from a young age both of her parents encouraging her to try it out.
When asked what inspires her to train and compete she said, “My parents inspire me… they always have taught me to go 100 percent in everything I do and to strive to be the best I can possibly be.”
Harmon said her parents are also her biggest role models. “They have overcome adversity and have made the life my siblings and I live the best it can be.”
Varsity Basketball Coach Mariska Harris said of Harmon, “Jaz has stepped up this season being a presence on both the defensive and offensive end for the beginning of the season and as we enter district play.”
As far as collegiate plans, she is committed to the University of Alabama Birmingham. While there, she will study Psychology.
