James Vangeli, son of Mario and Marian Vangeli, is this week’s Kerr & Co. Realty Athlete of the Week.
He is a senior at Ravenwood High School and a member of the wrestling team. So far this season, he has a record of 6-5.
Vangeli said that he has always had a smaller build. As a result of that, when trying out sports, he decided he wanted to do something where he could compete with other people his same size; wrestling was the perfect option.
When asked what inspires him to train and compete he said the idea of finality is what pushes him forward. “It’s senior year and probably last season ever wrestling,” he said.
Coach Tomlinson, the Head Wrestling Coach at RHS said of Vangeli, “James Vangeli has been a member of and varsity letterman of the RHS wrestling team for all four years of high school. He is a team captain and has been a consistent leader for our team all season long. James currently holds a varsity record of 6-5 and has a goal to be a state qualifier after next week’s region tournament.”
After graduating from RHS this spring, he plans to first get a degree in Engineering, then join the U.S. Airforce.
