Houston Chapman, son of Rick and Brenda Chapman, is a senior at Ravenwood High School and this week’s Kerr & Co. Realty Athlete of the Week.
He is a member of the Varsity Boys Basketball Team and plays the position of center.
He said one of the biggest highlights of the season was preventing a score in a game against Independence High School.
“When our big man picked up his fourth foul in the third quarter against Indy, I went in to help keep people from scoring inside,” Chapman said. “Indy didn’t score much inside and it helped give our team a win.”
Chapman said his love for the sport came with his first basketball that his parents gifted him. “My parents gave me a basketball at age five and I’ve never looked back,” he said. “I love the game and the competition.”
When asked what inspires him to continue training and competing he said, “I train because I want my team to win and love the feeling of winning with my teammates.”
Andy Elrod, the Athletic Director at RHS said of Chapman, “Houston has helped provide solid depth in the paint and has done a great job leading and encouraging teammates.”
One of his biggest role models is his father, Rick. “I want to be like him,” he said. “He has taught me everything I know and has made me the person I am today.”
Chapman describes himself as hard working, competitive and caring. Outside of basketball, he enjoys participating in his church’s youth group activities and doing Broadcasting through RHS.
After graduating from RHS, he plans to attend Middle Tennessee State University to pursue a major in Media Management. One day, he said he hopes to be the producer of a television show.
