Taya Lee, daughter of Atif and Tereon Williams, is a senior at Ravenwood High School and this week’s Kerr & Co. Realty Athlete of the Week.
She is a member of the Varsity Girls Basketball Team and plays the position of center. This season, she scored 11 points, had 16 rebounds and two assists.
Lee said her inspiration to start playing came from her sister. “My sister started playing and it looked like fun, so I tried it,” she said. “I ended up falling in love with the game.”
When asked what inspires her to continue training and competing she said, “I love basketball, so when I am training and playing, I don’t ever think to give less than 100 percent. Wanting to be successful for my team and myself keeps me going.”
Andy Elrod, the Athletic Director at RHS said of Lee, “Taya recorded a double-double in our game against Indy with 11 points and 16 rebounds. Taya is gaining more and more confidence each day on the floor and is a vital part of our team’s success.”
Her biggest role model is former first lady, lawyer, philanthropist, and author, Michelle Obama. Lee said she looks up to her “because of the things she accomplished in her law career preceding her husband’s presidency.” She added, “She is a great example of how a woman should carry herself.”
Lee describes herself as energetic, optimistic and vocal. Outside of basketball she enjoys reading and watching movies.
In the fall, Lee will attend Rhodes College where she is committed to playing basketball. She plans to study international Business Relations in a pre-law track. One day, she hopes to become a corporate lawyer.
