Noah Kang, son of Byung and Micki Kang, is a freshman at Ravenwood High School and this week’s Kerr & Co. Realty Athlete of the Week.
He competes on the RHS wrestling team. This season, he placed second at the freshman tournament at McGavock High School.
Kang said his father was one of the driving forces for him to start wrestling. His father wrestled in high school and encouraged him to begin. In seventh grade, he decided to try out at Woodland Middle School.
When asked what inspires him to train and compete he said, “All the times that I have lost.”
His father, Byung, is also one of his biggest role models. “He is hard working and he always finds time to spend with family.”
Coach Tomlinson, the Head Wrestling Coach at RHS said of Kang, “Noah had a great first year with the Ravenwood wrestling program. For his first year as a varsity wrestler, he posted a record of 10-15. Although he fell just short of his goal to be a state qualifier, the coaches loved his hard work ethic, his dedication to his team, and positive attitude all year. We are very excited about his future with our program.”
Kang describes himself as nice, intelligent, hardworking, and fun. Outside of wrestling, he enjoys playing baseball, reading and playing video games.
Although he is only a freshman, he said he is already planning for his collegiate future. He hopes to attend Vanderbilt University and study Computer Science.
