Sydney Hughes, daughter of DeeAnna Dillon and David Hughes, is a senior at Ravenwood High School and this week’s Kerr & Co. Realty Athlete of the Week.
She is a member of the Varsity Girls Softball Team and plays the positions of catcher, shortstop and center. This season, she said hitting a homerun was her biggest highlight.
Hughes started playing when she was six years old and said she has loved it ever since.
When asked what inspires her to continue training and competing she said, “I always wanted to play in college, so pushing myself in every practice has helped me reach that goal.”
RHS Softball Coach Allison Brown said of Hughes, “Sydney has worked very hard all off season. She has been a leader in the weight room and on the field the first couple weeks of practice. We will be looking to her to lead our team this season.”
One of her biggest role models is former Olympic softball player, Jennie Finch. “She is an example of a hard worker and reaching her goals,” Hughes said.
Outside of softball, she enjoys spending time with her friends.
After graduating, she plans to attend Middle Tennessee State University where she will continue to play softball. She one day hopes to become a substance abuse therapist.
