Gabriel Sleenhof, son of Marc and Karen Sleenhof, is a junior at Ravenwood High School and this week’s Kerr & Co. Realty Athlete of the Week.
He is a member of the Varsity Track & Field Team and competes in discus and shotput.
Sleenhof’s entry into throwing was natural, as his brother and father both threw shotput and discus as he was growing up.
When asked what inspires him to train and compete he said, “Beating my brother and being the best I can” is what keeps him moving forward.
RHS Track & Field Coach Peter Mueller said of Sleenhof, “It’s been a big spring for one of Ravenwood’s biggest and best athletes. Spinning has added around 20 feet to his discus throw, which he won Tuesday at Scott Hartman with a mark of 145’8”. He followed that up on Wednesday with a nearly 3’ PR in the shot… [He] has been a strong leader, assisting his fellow throwers with the transition to our new throws coach.”
One of his biggest role models is RHS Track & Field Coach Ryan Fowler. He said he admires his experience in the sport and how he makes the team better.
Sleenhof describes himself as confident, powerful and a leader. In his free time, he enjoys drawing and joking with friends.
After graduating from RHS, he plans to continue playing sports in college. He hopes to attend Harvard University.
