BASEBALL: Independence soars in semis win, Nolensville, GCA, CPA advance, BA falls

Below are baseball updates from the ongoing region tournament.

Independence continues strong post-season run in region semis victory over Hillwood

Independence shut out its second straight opponent with a 6-0 win over visiting Hillwood in a Region 6-AAA semifinal Monday night.

Will Tobin earned the win after allowing one hit and striking out 14 in six innings.

Montana Dickerson pitched the final inning for the Eagles (24-10), who will host Summit (22-11) in the region championship on Wednesday night.

Vanderbilt commit Robert Hassell pitched a 17-strikeout no-hitter in Independence’s 3-0 win over Brentwood in the District 11-AAA championship on Wednesday.

Hassell, a Class AAA Mr. Baseball finalist, hit his 13th homer of the season in the second.

The Eagles built a 5-0 lead over Hillwood (20-12) by scoring two in the first, two in the second and one in the third.

Independence is seeking its first region title since 2011.

The Eagles extended their win streak to seven.

Nolensville shuts out Lewis Co.

The Nolensville Knights shut out Lewis Co. at home 8-0 Monday night to advance in the Class AA region tournament.

They’ll host Forrest Wednesday night for the region title.

Grace Christian Academy gets region semis victory

The GCA Lions kept their post-season hopes alive with a 6-2 victory against Cornersville Monday night at Trevecca in the Class A region tournament.

Baylor Jones and Brock Arrender both had two runs a piece, Jones on a double in the third inning and Arrender on a single in the fifth. Grant Solomon had two hits for the offense, and Austin Kasick pitched a strong seven innings.

The Lions will advance to play in the region championship game Wednesday night at Trevecca’s field against Eagleville.

Christ Presbyterian Academy continues on in May play

The CPA Lions won 6-1 against Chattanooga Christian Saturday in the first round of the D-II A region tournament to keep the postseason going.

The school says they’ll move on to play St. Georges in a best-of-three series Wednesday (and Thursday, if needed). The games will be on the road.

Brentwood Academy falls to MBA in D-II AA post-season

The BA Eagles lost a best-of-three series in the first round of the D-II AA region tournament with MBA last Friday, with the Eagles taking one game 9-1 but MBA claiming the last two, 11-0 and 2-1.
