Two of the Nashville area’s largest churches, Mount Zion Baptist Church and Brentwood Baptist Church, will unite their congregations for the 2nd annual Back-to-School and Healthcare outreach event at historic Hadley Park, which was dedicated on July 4, 1912.
Families from all backgrounds are invited to prepare for, and celebrate, the start of the school year with free backpacks, health screenings and opportunities to build faith-based relationships across the racial divide.
The event runs 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 4, at Hadley Park Community Center, 1037 28th Ave N, Nashville TN 37208.
The Back-to-School and Healthcare outreach event was established 11 years ago by Bishop Joseph Walker, senior pastor at Mt. Zion. Last year, Bishop Walker joined with his friend Senior Pastor Mike Glenn of Brentwood Baptist to expand its reach and purpose by bringing together a predominately black and a predominately white congregation.
Its event will feature fun activities for kids, worship and arts presentations, and health screenings. Healthcare providers, including the Brentwood Baptist Medical Dental Unit, will be on-site to provide the following free screenings: dental, blood pressure, HIV testing, and immunizations, as well as health education counseling.
