What makes a city a great place to live?
If low crime rates top your list of priorities, you’re in the right place. Both Brentwood and Nolensville were recently named by Safewise as some of the safest places to live in Tennessee.
Brentwood, ranked fourth in the list, has a violent crime rate of 0.71 crimes per 1,000 people, and a property crime rate of 9.41 crimes per 1,000 people. This is one ranking place higher than last year’s report, which named Brentwood the fifth safest city.
Only Belle Meade, Pleasant View and Collegedale were ranked higher.
Nolensville, on the other hand, flew up the ranks by five places and was named the eleventh-safest city in Tennessee, above cities like Spring Hill, Mount Juliet and Hendersonville. The little town situated just southeast of neighboring Brentwood has a violent crime rate of 1.27 crimes per 1,000 people and a property crime rate of 12.68 crimes per 1,000 people.
The Safewise report compared its 20 “safest cities” to the rest of the state, and the comparison showed a large disparity.
“Each of Tennessee’s safest cities had fewer than two incidents of violent crime per 1,000 people, but the state doesn’t do as well overall. Tennessee’s statewide violent crime rate of 9.07 is double the national rate of 4.49 crimes per 1,000,” the website states.
The data for Safewise’s “Tennessee’s 20 Safest Cities of 2019” report is compiled from the FBI Uniform Crime Reporting (UCR) program. More information about Safewise’s ranking system can be found on its website here.
