E. C. (Curt) Fields Jr. to present on Gen. Grant at December Round Table

Dr. E. C. (Curt) Fields Jr. will be the featured guest presenting, “Grant: The Man Behind the Uniform,” at the Dec. 11 edition of the Franklin Civil War Round Table.

His lifelong interest in the American Civil War and his admiration for General Ulysses Grant has led to his portrayal of the famous general to groups all over the United States as well as foreign audiences. Fields is the same height and build as General Grant, and his presentations are in first person, quoting from Grant’s memoirs and letters.

Fields holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees in education from the University of Memphis and a Ph.d. in Educational Administration and Curriculum from Michigan State University. He has spoken on “leadership” to various corporations including Caterpillar and International Paper.

He has also served as a Memphis city police officer and received a Life Saving Medal for action in the line of duty. He has appeared in numerous Civil War-related events including the 150th anniversary of Lee’s surrender at Appomattox, a Discovery Channel documentary about Grant and several National Park Service visitor center productions. He was honored by the American Civil War Round Table in Queensland, Australia, with a lifetime membership.

This promises to be a fascinating and unique presentation which will be held at the Carnton Plantation’s Fleming Center on Sunday, Dec. 11. The event starts at 3 p.m. and is open to the public.
