Former Franklin standout Garrison Mathews earns weekly honors with Lipscomb

As the Lipscomb University Bisons men’s basketball team continue their strong stampede into conference play, two associations have honored one of their players, a former WillCo standout.

Former Franklin Rebel Garrison Mathews was recently named the Lou Henson Midmajor National Player of the Week for the second time in his career.

He also earned the Tennessee Sports Writers Association Men’s Basketball Player of the Week title for his last three games of play.

Over the last week or so, he had 25 points in a winning contest against Kennesaw State, 31 points and 10 rebounds in a victory over Florida Gulf Coast and 31 points in a win against Stetson.

The TSWA says he averages about 20 points a game overall.

Mathews was a standout at Franklin High School  before joining Lipscomb in 2015. He was a driving force on Lipscomb’s first NCAA Tournament team last March.

The Bisons are 16-4 overall and are undefeated (7-0) in the Atlantic-Sun conference.

They’ve not lost a game since Dec. 30 (at Clemson).
