Maxi B. Home is home run for home decor
A fresh home decor retailer, Maxi B. Home is like a ray of sunshine for anyone shopping for anything from furniture to bedding to lighting or gifts.
And it is a ray of sunshine when it comes to prices as well!
EYE FOR BEAUTY
Karen Fuqua grew up watching her mother Maxine go to friends houses and help them hang art and rearrange furniture. So frequently did her mother assist with decorating, her father suggested she go to design school and get paid for her work.
“My mother just has an eye for beauty. She loves art and color. So when I decided to open a home decor shop, I named it Maxi after her, and the B is for Bivens, my maiden name. So adding the initial is my way of paiyng homage to my late father, who just loved Williamson County so much,” says Fuqua.
SOMETHING DIFFERENT AND AFFORDABLE
Fuqua had two goals when choosing the merchandise for the store. And she nailed both of them.
“I wanted things that were different from anything else in Brentwood. I have so many friends who own shops, and I didn’t want my store to compete with whatever they offer. And I wanted the price to be affordable, while still offering things that look good and make people happy,” Fuqua says.
Fuqua believes her retail mix is appealing to all ages, from 30-somethings to empty nesters and beyond.
“Not everyone wants to buy a coverlet for $1,000. Maybe they are buying their first home, or they have small children. Or, they have lived with their furniture for years and just want an update that doesn’t cost a fortune. That is why I look at price point and design. Things can be beautiful without looking like it came from Ikea. And the price can be pocket-book friendly,” Fuqua says.
