The Nolensville Lady Knights have only lost once since right before Christmas, and they might make it past Valentine’s Day without an “L” if their streak keeps up.
The team edged Class AA-12 foe Marshall Co. Tuesday night, 45-39, improving to 8-1 in the district and to 19-6 overall.
The win gives the Lady Knights a clear lane to the top seed for the district tournament, though a second game with Community at home next Tuesday (a team that defeated them in January) could prove difficult.
Grace Baird led the team with 19 in the victory.
The standout Lady Knight recalled how the team’s last win against the Tigerettes came at the buzzer on a three-point shot.
You get more confidence with a larger margin, after all.
“We just wanted to make sure we could get at least first or second place in our district,” Baird said.
The pressures of tournament competition and the expectations the Lady Knights have for themselves will arrive soon once the post-season gets going for the state-potential Nolensville.
Though, Baird says she feels it’s just business as normal as she and her teammates get ready.
“After you’re in the game, you completely just forget about it,” she said. “We all forget about it as a team, especially after halftime. I feel like we’re so used to playing these teams…we study their plays, we do film…it’s a lot easier than you’d expect.”
The Lady Knights will celebrate the senior class in Tuesday’s Community rematch.
