James K. Wall, Jr. passed away unexpectedly on March 18, 2019.
He was born October 18, 1963, the second child and only son of Jim and Sara Wall. On March 1, 1997, Jim married his beloved wife, the former Courtnay Baron. They had two wonderful daughters together, Chloe Chenault Wall and Ann Grace Wall.
Jim’s family moved to Brentwood before his second birthday, and it was a place he loved. From kindergarten through sixth grade, Jim attended the Oak Hill School. From his earliest days there, it was apparent that Jim was both an exceptional athlete and a comedian. He had a gift for making people laugh that continued into adulthood. After Oak Hill, Jim went on to Battleground Academy, where he excelled in football, winning All-District honors in his senior year. After graduating BGA, Jim went to the University of Alabama, where he was a member of SAE fraternity. At each of these schools, Jim formed friendships that lasted throughout his life. Upon graduation from Alabama, Jim returned to Brentwood. After considering several career options, he went to work with Clive Anderson Realty & Auction Company. Jim went to auctioneering school and became an accomplished auctioneer who could “sing” with the best of them when selling a property. Jim eventually followed in his father’s footsteps and became a home builder. He developed a reputation as a builder of beautiful, quality homes. His home construction career led to the discovery of a hidden talent in woodworking. From customizing woodwork for banisters and mantels, he developed into an artist who could simply look at a photograph of an antique chest and build a perfect replica. His attention to detail in his woodworking, especially his use of inlays, was extraordinary. Jim loved the outdoors. In his younger days, he was an avid hunter, as skilled with a bow as with a gun. His greater love, though, was his family, and he gave up hunting to spend more time with them. Jim also loved mission work. For many years, he went on an annual trip to Jamaica, where his building skills and his work ethic were praised and valued by his fellow volunteers.
Jim will be remembered for his love of family, for his deep and long-lasting friendships and for his mischievous sense of humor.
His father, James K. Wall Sr., preceded him in death. Jim is survived by his wife and daughters, his mother, his sister Jan Caffey (Kip), his nieces, Grace, Reed and Liz Caffey and his nephew, Lee Caffey.
Visitation will be held at Brentwood Baptist Church from 12 to 2:30 p.m. on Monday, March 25, and a memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to The Wall Girls Scholarship Fund at First Tennessee Bank, 202 Franklin Road, Brentwood, Tennessee, 37027.
