First opening in August of 2016 with only freshmen and sophomores, Nolensville High School saw its first ever graduating class celebrate the historic occasion Sunday morning at the Williamson County Ag Expo Park in Franklin.

While spirits were initially high, news that one of those set to receive their diploma that day, Linsey Stewart, had been in a vehicle crash on I-65 that morning quickly saw students go from cheering, to joining together in prayer.

Stewart would later be pronounced dead.

“We are heartbroken today over the loss of one of our seniors on graduation day,” wrote Nolensville High School Principal Bill Harlin on social media. “Our thoughts and prayers go out to the Stewart family. We love you Linsey.”

A candlelight vigil has already been scheduled to honor the memory of Stewart, and will take place at 8 p.m. Tuesday at Nolensville High School.

The class Valedictorian was Ricky Chen, and the class Salutatorian was Justin Le.
