Matthew Hatton, son of Keith and Kathy Hatton, is a senior at Ravenwood High School and this week’s Student of the Week.
He is involved in several different extracurricular activities at RHS and beyond. He is a member of JROTC and participates in theatre, fencing, ultimate Frisbee and his church’s youth group. He is a JROTC Battalion Commander and the founder and captain of BHS Ultimate Frisbee.
He said his biggest passion is his desire to make a difference in the world.
“I think that can be done in many ways,” he said, “and I am always trying to make where I am a better place.”
His favorite class at RHS is JROTC.
“It is unlike any other class at RHS and it has changed my life,” he said.
One of his biggest role models and inspirations is his youth pastor, Jamin Wentworth, for his faith and character.
“His faith inspires me and he is just a joy to be around,” he said.
JROTC Masters Sergeant Jim Screeton spoke highly of Hatton’s attitude and effort:
Matthew’s achievements place him within a distinctive group of students, but it is his dedication to our school, church and to the community that truly makes him stand out… He can be counted on to lead group situations and to give assistance to those requiring extra help. Matthew is very well-liked and respected not only by faculty and administration, but by his fellow cadets as well.
After graduating from RHS this year, he plans to join the U.S. Air Force or become a Navy pilot.
