Joe Owens, son of Chris and Jeannine Owens, is a senior at Ravenwood High School and this week’s Student of the Week.
He is a member of Riddle Club, Debate Team and Model United Nations. He has received the AP Scholar Award, is a Hugh O’Brian Youth Leadership Alumni and a Bogs State Alumni.
One of his passions, which is very unique, is pen spinning. It helps with Owens’ focus. “It’s something I can always do whether I’m riddling or debating,” he said.
His favorite teacher at RHS is Ms. Dirkes-Jacks, who teaches psychology and is the Debate and Forensics coach. “She has taught me many important life lessons,” he said.
Dirkes-Jacks said of Owens, “Joe is incredibly dedicated to debate and makes a habit of not only working hard for his own success, but of prioritizing his teammates, helping them excel as well. He is an enthusiastic cheerleader of his teammates, especially our newer team members and makes the debate team a more focused place.”
After graduating from RHS this spring, he will go on to attend Emory University.
