Three more take petitions in crowded County Commission primary election

Three more potential County Commission candidates pulled petitions this past Friday, bringing to 55 the number of potential candidates in the race.

Petitions for the County Primary are due at noon on Feb. 15.

36 petitions had been returned to the County Election Commission as of Friday. Some potential candidates hold back until filing week or even filing day. 24 seats on the County Commission are up for grabs.

Michael I. Miga, who pulled a petition on Friday for the 11th District seat is the 14th Democrat to enter a County Commission race, an atypical number of Democrats compared to other recent years.

The two others who pulled petitions are Ned Williams, a Republican who becomes the 6th candidate to pull a petition for the two seats up for grabs; and Chas Morton, the 4th candidate to take a petition for the 9th District. Morton is a Republican.

The County Primary is May 1, and includes the County Mayor, the County Commission, Circuit and Juvenile Court clerks, the County Trustee and the Register of Deeds.
