What’s new at the fair? Dinosaurs, jumbo Jenga, amazing horses

The 2018 Williamson County Fair gets under way in just a few short weeks at the Ag Expo Park in Franklin.

The nine-day event boasts many new fun family-friendly events for fairgoers to enjoy: Mind Works, Ma’Ceo and Jurassic Kingdom, are new to the fair this year.

“Each our new attractions this year appeal to people of all ages and further solidify the Williamson
County Fair as a family-friendly event with something for everyone to enjoy,” said Diane Giddens, who serves as the entertainment chair for the Fair.

The Ma’Ceo show will take place daily in a large tent area within the Fair Village. The show features a
look back at the origins of Gypsy heritage and the bond between man and horse, as performers show off the amazing things man horse can do together. Between performances, visitors will be also be able to see the horses and interact with performers.

“Ma’Ceo is unlike any attraction we’ve had in recent years and will be prominently featured in Fair
Village,” Giddens said. “With several shows a day and an educational exhibit between shows, we think it will add a thrilling and interesting new element to the Fair.”

The Jurassic Kingdom also will look to educate visitors about some majestic creatures, this time of the prehistoric variety. Visitors will go hands-on with some ancient fossils and interact with some very entertaining dinosaurs. The show will include, Terry, the comical pterodactyl, Jack the two-month old brontosaurus, Sarah, the newborn triceratops, Lucy the velociraptor and Sparky the Tyrannosaurus Rex.

Giddens said the love of the Jurassic Park films and the recent Jurassic World films played a role in
bringing the attraction to the fair this year, if only for a short time.

“We have always enjoyed shows that are very interactive and encourage participation from fairgoers,
and we are excited to feature Jurassic Kingdom for the first five days of the Fair,” she said.
Fairgoers can visit Jurassic Kingdom on Friday at 7 p.m. and 8: 30 p.m. Saturday, shows began at 11: 30 a.m., with more shows in the afternoon at 1: 30 p.m., 3: 30 p.m. and 7 p.m. Sunday shows begin at 12:30 p.m. and continue at 2 p.m., 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. Monday and Tuesday will follow the same schedule as Friday. It will also include a bubble area, a construction area for building things and even a special area designed specifically for young toddlers.
